Text Box: A Letter to Grandma June 1st 2024 Dear Grandma I am writing to you from New York City USA. It’s amazing here and I got to see so many things. I went to the Empire State Building and got to see the whole city from there. Also New York Central Park is so cool and there are lots of pretty flowers and plants there. However my favorite part of NYC is all of the murals. There is the “Big City of Dreams” mural, the Love Wall and even an Audrey Hepburn mural. She is so cool. I hope that you can see them too. Text Box: Marisol lived on a busy block in New York City where an empty lot smelled funky and glittered with broken bottles. One spring morning, neighbors came with rakes, shovels, and brooms. They cleaned the trash and marked small garden squares with strings and sticks. All the plots were taken, but beside the fence there was a tiny strip of dirt. Marisol pressed one seed into the soil and promised to take care of it every day. For many days nothing happened. She still watered, pulled little weeds, and hoped. At last, a tiny green hook pushed up from the ground. The plant grew taller and taller until it stood higher than the fence. Big rough leaves opened wide, and soon a bright yellow sunflower faced the street like a small sun. Later, the flower bowed its heavy head. An older neighbor told Marisol it was full of seeds—ready to share and save for spring. That evening, the neighbors painted a bright mural on the wall: baskets of vegetables and a huge sunflower. People stopped to smile and talk. The garden that started with one small seed made the block feel warm, friendly, and alive—like home. Reading Comprehension- Read the text and answer the questions.
